RIVER FOREST, Ill. (April 22, 2014) – The Rend Lake College Men’s Outdoor Track and Field team competed last Thursday at the annual Cougar Invitational, hosted by Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, Ill.
Receiving 16 points for the Warriors’ overall score of 30 was Venice-native Tyrone Echols, who competed in the 100-meter dash and the 200m dash. He placed first overall in the 100m, earning him 10 points, with a time of 11.21. The other six points came from a third place finish in the 200m at 22.90.
Four more Warriors docked points for RLC, including Brandon Cottier (Sugar Grove), Karson Hahn (Mt. Vernon), Trace Turner (Mt. Vernon), and Jake Wilson (Mt. Vernon).
RLC’s Wilson took fourth place in the javelin throw, hitting the 45.2m mark and earning five points for the team. He also competed in the 3000m run, finishing 19th with a time of 10:15.77.
Hahn also earned five points after competing in two events. He placed sixth in the 1500m run with a time of 4:08.99 and seventh in the 800m run at 2:01.66. He earned three and two points respectively.
Cottier placed eighth in the 200m dash, less than a second behind teammate Echols with a time of 23.76. The finish awarded him two points. Cottier placed 13th in the 400m dash with a time of 53.85 during the Invite. Turner competed in the pole vault and javelin throw for the Warriors. He earned two points from his seventh place finish in pole vaulting at 3.75m. He also placed 11th in the javelin throw at 35.5m.
Long-distance runner Brenton Rains (Chester) also competed at the Invite in the 3000m run. He placed 13th with a time of 9:47.76.
