WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Lady Warriors cut Cougar streak short

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - The Lady Warriors and Dallas Cowboys had something in common Saturday night. They both went into their unbeaten opponents' homes and turned things upside down - Dallas, a 24-17 win in New Orleans, and Rend Lake, a 76-70 win in East Peoria, Ill.

RLC shut down an 11-0 run by the Lady Cougars from Illinois Central College, ranked #2 on the NJCAA DII polls going into Saturday night's matchup with the Lady Warriors. Down 32-30 at the half, RLC came back and finished the game with only four players after freshman center Heather Murphy (Murphysboro, Ill.) fouled out with seconds left on the clock. ICC called a timeout and ran an out-of-bounds play.

"We switched on every screen and I told them 'no threes!'" RLC Head Coach Ashley Allen said after the game. RLC got the ball back and hit one of two free throws after being fouled. And that was it.

The Cougars had no answer for RLC freshman guard Cierra Dotson (Indianapolis, Ind.) who led all scorers with a season-high 38 points. The win puts Rend Lake at 7-7 and closes the book on the 2009 half of the season. They will start back up with conference action in January.
