WOMEN'S GOLF: Lady Warriors set new RLC golf records


RECORD BREAKERS - The Rend Lake College Lady Warriors golf team set two new records at their school by winning the Millikin University Fall Golf Classic. The team established a new 18-hole team low of 312 in the first round of play and followed with a 315 on the second day for a new two-day team low of 627. DECATUR, Ill. – Rend Lake College finished 19 strokes ahead of Washington University to take the Millikin University Fall Golf Classic on Sunday and set two new team records at RLC.

The lady linksters from The Lake shot a new 18-hole team record of 312 on Saturday and finished Sunday with a 315 for a new two-day record of 627. The former records were 315 set last season and 636 established in 2003.

Salem High (Ill.) grad Taylor Landers led RLC with a fifth-place 78-77-155 out of 121 golfers. Her teammates, Megan Gindling (Greensburg, Ind.) and Lauren Bond (Marion, Ill.) tied for sixth with an identical 79-78-157. Athena Smolka finished ninth with a 77-81-158.

“Four in the top ten is pretty impressive,” RLC Head Coach Cindy Corn said.

Other scores for RLC were Mallorie Cummings (Salem) with an 82-88-170, Katherine Bray (Pinckneyville) at 91-84-175, Sarah Fraser (Highland, Ill) with an 84-91-175 and Nikki Ojala (McLeansboro, Ill.) at 98-96-194.

Washington University (323-323-646) was followed by Illinois Wesleyan (319-329-648) in third place, Lindenwood University (650) and Marian University (653) in fifth.
