NAIROBI, Kenya - Rend Lake College mid-distance sensation Boaz Lalang today became the first athlete from RLC to ever make the Olympics.
Lalang; a 19-year-old national collegiate champion in the 800m and mile run, and this season's fastest mile runner in the world; finished second today in the 800m event at the Kenyan Olympic Trials to join 35 other athletes from his homeland who are now bound for Beijing.
Lalang won the semi-final 800m before finishing second in the finals with a time of 1:45.21 behind former World 800m indoor champion Wilfred Bungei with a time of 1:45.06. He was followed by World champion Alfred Kirwa in 1:45.49.
