MT. VERNON - The Illinois Small Business Development Center at the Rend Lake College MarketPlace has announced its list of upcoming Fall 2011 workshops.
Planning to start a business is a big step. Starting a business plan is another.
Everything you need to know about getting a business up and running will be explained in "Starting your Business in Illinois" - a free workshop held at the Rend Lake College Small Business Develop Center. Starting your Business in Illinois will cover topics such as services available through the SBDC, legal structures for small businesses, registering a business, employee issues, developing a business plan and financing options.
"Those who are thinking of starting a business or getting into a business are going to be putting their own money or someone else's money at risk. Those who fail are usually those who fail to plan. This workshop is the first step in that planning process," said Curt Mowrer, RLC SBDC Executive Director.
This workshop will be offered twice: from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 11; and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. The Aug. 11 session will feature a Commercial Insurance Overview component explaining the various forms of insurance your business may need.
"Giving your Business a Marketing Tune-Up" will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept. 1. This workshop is aimed at helping people remember the basics of marketing while adding a little real-world flair. It is designed to help you market your business and present yourself in a positive, professional manner. Learn useful quick tips on making you and your business stand out to potential customers, examine what makes an effective marketing campaign work, and discuss ways to improve your brand. Even those who have never taken a marketing class will gain insight from this professional and fun workshop. Cost is $15.
"Commercial Insurance for Business - Getting the Right Policy for Your Business" will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14. From property insurance to general liability and workers compensation, this workshop will offer a general overview of insurance options for your business. There will be plenty of time for discussion, questions and answers. Workshop cost is $15.
"Making the Most of Your Business Budget … How to Do More with Less" is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday Sept. 22. This workshop will provide tips on making the most of your business budget and how to do more with less. Participants will review some basic economic ideas that may make your business better. Join us for a fun and professional afternoon. The cost is $15.
Also planned for this fall is a day of exploring the new world of marketing with "Social Media Marketing Made Simple" and "Seven Keys to Email Marketing." These workshops will be led by Steve Robinson of Constant Contact. These sessions will show participants how to get better results by spending less money. The workshops will run from 1 to 4:15 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 1. Each workshop costs $15.
