Mount Vernon, IL (November 30, 2011) - Mount Vernon native and author Chris Rainey will discuss and read from his first book, a collection of poems entitled Touching Other Worlds at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29 at the Gourmet Coffee Shop, located inside the Rend Lake College MarketPlace on Potomac Boulevard.
Rainey is a 1982 graduate of Mount Vernon Township High School and a 1987 graduate of Rend Lake College. His book was inspired mostly by his frequent visits to a nature center near his home in New Jersey and a special assignment for UPS working for two months delivering packages on the Upper East Side of New York City. He said it was a period that provided him time to write while commuting by bus into New York City.
Chris is currently an IT worker, Christian minister, and free-lance writer. He has served in the past as a corporate trainer, pastor, Bible institute instructor, church conference presenter, retreat speaker, public school substitute teacher, and church curriculum writer. His book of poems evolved from journaling that began more than 10 years ago.
The event will be followed by a book signing with the author. Additional information is available by calling 201-482-0835.
