RLC New Miner Training now offered in weekend format

INA, Ill. (Feb. 21, 2014) – The Rend Lake College Inexperienced Miner Training will be offered in a new multi-weekend format, starting in March. Students will now have the option to complete the training on three consecutive weekends, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. March 15-16, March 22-23, and March 29-30.

Don McBride, RLC Mining Technology Instructor, explained the new format will be to accommodate students who cannot attend the usual Monday through Saturday, 8-hours-per-day arrangement.

“There are students who have to miss work or something else to be able to come to the training, and they just can’t do that,” said McBride. “We’re going to have a 48-hour at a time training for people who want to get into the mine industry, but can’t leave their full-time job.”

After the training is complete, students will receive federal certification which will allow them to be employed at any surface or underground mine in the country. The cost of the training is $165. Those interested are required to pre-register and pre-pay for the class. Registration begins Feb. 26.
