INA, Ill. (Jan. 30, 2014) – Three personal enrichment classes are starting February off on the right foot next week, with some new and unique options in Rend Lake College’s Community and Corporate Education Division.
The first class, a new offering, is called Releasing the Creative Writer in You: Basic Skills and Techniques and is taught by Instructor Sandra Conner. This class will bring novice practices to the table for beginning writers, as well as provide hands-on practice and editing skills for seasoned writers. Participants should bring one three-ring binder with lined, loose-leaf notebook paper and pens or pencils to turn in assignments.
The class will meet from form 10 a.m. – noon on Thursdays from Feb. 6 until March 27 in the Historic Schoolhouse on the RLC main campus in Ina. The cost is $80, plus a $10 supply fee.
Another new class called Melody Makers will also start Feb. 6. Instructor Jennifer Wisehart will provide students with musical skills needed in order to improvise and compose melodies. The class is aimed at children from kindergarten to fourth grade.
There are two levels of curriculum offered this semester. Level One, Instrument Families, will meet from 6 – 7 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 6 – March 27. Level One costs $48, plus a $5 supply fee. Level Two, Elements of Music, is scheduled for 6 – 7 p.m. on Thursdays from April 10 – May 15. Level Two costs $36.
The RLC MarketPlace Fitness Center will also have a new class option in the form of Martial Arts. Instructor Gary Douglass will help students gain or improve confidence, self-esteem, self-control, coordination, balance, reaction time, overall physical and mental conditioning, and respect for others through martial arts exercise and discipline. Both Kenpo Karate and Jiu Jitsu will be taught.
There are two age levels offered. Students ages 6-12 will meet from 5 – 7 p.m. Fridays from Feb. 7 – March 28. Ages 13 and older will meet afterward, from 7 – 9 p.m. on the same dates. The cost of the class is $48 for both age levels.
