INA, Ill. (Aug. 30, 2013) – Spots are still open in Sign Language I and II workshops through Rend Lake College’s Community and Corporate Education Division.
Both classes work on the fundamentals of American Sign Language. The first workshop, Sign Language I, covers topics from the alphabet and numbers to colors and classroom items, while also providing a basic understanding of the culture of the hearing impaired.
The second workshop, Sign Language II, introduces phrases and sentences into the curriculum and is for the advanced sign language student.
The instructor of both workshops is Amy Richards. Educators who participate in the workshops are able to earn Continuing Education credits for the classes. Each is worth 0.5 credit hours or 8 CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units).
Sign Language I will be held at the Historic Schoolhouse on the Ina campus from 6-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 16 through Sept. 25.
Sign Language II will follow in the next two weeks, also at the Historic Schoolhouse, from 6-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 30 through Oct. 9.
