INA, Ill. (Aug. 27, 2013) – If learning to bake is on your bucket list, or if you’re wanting to learn some secrets and tips, check out these evening baking workshops courtesy of Rend Lake College’s Community and Corporate Education Division.
The first class this fall is Cake Decorating for Beginners, which is held from 6-8 p.m. on three Tuesdays, from Sept. 10 through Sept. 24, in the Student Center, Room 103, at the Ina campus. Instructor Kim Barr will teach participants the best way to bake a cake, make icing, decorate cakes and several other unique activities. The cost of the workshop is $30, plus a $10 supply fee for icing, bags and use of tips for all three sessions.
Barr also teaches the second workshop in the set, Cake Decorating: Beyond the Basics. This also is held from 6-8 p.m. on three Tuesdays, from Oct. 8 through Oct. 22 in the Student Center, Room 103. This class will focus on decorating, using techniques to make fondant icing, flowers with buttercream, and other advanced techniques. The cost is $30 for the workshop with a $20 supply fee.
The final workshop, taught by Mary Rice, aims to get both adults and children involved in decorating. Me & My Buddy Cookie Decorating meets from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Aunt Minnie’s Nibble & Chat Bakery in Pinckneyville to decorate sugar cookies with fall themes. The cost of the workshop is $10 plus a $5 supply fee, and children will be able to make and take home up to six cookies.
