Customer service, risk control and marketing are the subjects of three free business workshops to be offered next month at Rend Lake College’s Small Business Development Center.
“Customer Service” (WKSP 5312-30) will be led by Norma Turock, Management Educator for the University of Illinois Extension. The workshop is set for 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in Room 336 of the Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon. This seminar will lay the groundwork for employee understanding of the importance of each customer that enters, calls or contacts a business. Focus will be on employee attitudes and practices that will positively impact business. The important issue of conflict resolution will also be a primary focus of the instruction.
“Business Risk Controls & Prevention” (WKSP 5314-30) will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, April 13, in Rooms 354A and B at the MarketPlace. The presenters will be Shawn Christian, Vice President and Team Leader with U.S. Bank Treasury Management, and John D. Sherrick, Supervising Consultant for the Forensics & Dispute Services department of the accounting firm of BKD LLP.
This seminar will cover all types of business risks associated with banking and accounting practices in today’s environment. The topics to be covered include check fraud, electronic fraud, embezzlement schemes and other issues.
Turock will return to lead “Marketing Your Small Business” (WKSP 5334-30) from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in Room 336 at the MarketPlace. Participants will discover techniques in marketing their businesses effectively with this seminar. Topics will include making each employee part of a marketing team, advertising, promotions, and determining and meeting customer needs.
Because of the generosity of the volunteer instructors, these classes will be offered at no charge. These workshops are made available through a cooperative agreement between the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the U.S. Small Business Administration and Rend Lake College.
