Come and place a bid on two paintings of our feathered friends by Rend Lake College student Denise Colcord (Christopher) at the annual RLC Foundation Students for Students Art Auction.
The auction is set for Thursday, April 7, at the Rend Lake Resort Conference Center. Preview is at 5 p.m. and the auction begins at 6 p.m. The proceeds are earmarked for student scholarships.
Colcord is donating an oil painting of an eagle and a painting of a bluebird done in watercolor. She said the bluebird painting is the first major watercolor project she has undertaken. She completed the project at RLC in her art class. The eagle oil painting was a home project, Colcord said.
“I enjoy working with nature and animals, that type of thing,” Colcord said.
After obtaining an Associate in Art degree from Rend Lake College, she plans to move on to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale to major in paralegal studies.
A non-traditional student, Colcord said she simply needed to improve herself and chose to enroll at Rend Lake College. She said she is donating her artwork as a way of giving back to RLC.
“I like this college and the people here have helped me a lot,” Colcord said. “The instructors and the people here are great. I have been out of school for a long time, and the instructors here have been a big help.”
