You are never too old to let the games begin. Seniors from Illinois and surrounding states will be taking part in the Rend Lake College Regional Senior Games this summer.
The Regional Senior Games will be held Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4, at Rend Lake College and other locations in the district. The games are open to anyone 50 years of age and older as of May 27, 2005. Age categories will be 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90 and over. Awards will be given to first and second places in each event.
The schedule of events for the Rend Lake College Regional Senior Games is:
Friday, June 3
8 a.m. – Golf, Benton Country Club (shotgun start, call RLC for pairings)
9 a.m. – Tennis, Benton City Park (by registration only, singles or doubles)
9 a.m. – Horseshoes, Benton City Park
Noon-4 p.m. – Bowling, Nu Bowl Lanes, Mt. Vernon
4:30 p.m. – Prediction Walk, Benton Middle School Track
Track and Field Events (Benton Middle School)
5 p.m. – Softball Throw (distance) and Softball Throw (accuracy)
5:30 p.m. – 100-meter run
6 p.m. – Running Long Jump
6:15 p.m. – 800-meter run
6:30 p.m. – Shot Put
6:45 p.m. – 200-meter run
7 p.m. – Discus
7:15 p.m. – 400-meter walk/run
7:30 p.m. – High Jump
7:45 p.m. – 1500-meter walk/run
Saturday, June 4
7 a.m. – 5K Run, Rend Lake College, South Gateway Entrance
Swimming (Rend Lake College Aquatics Center)
8 a.m. – 25-yard breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke; 50-yard breaststroke,
backstroke and freestyle; 100-yard breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle;
200-yard freestyle; and 400-yard freestyle.
Cycling (Rend Lake College South Gateway entrance)
8 a.m. – Time Trial, Rend Lake College, South Gateway Entrance
9 a.m. – 20-kilometer road race (hosted and timed by All Stars and Stitches Cycling Club)
10 a.m. – Rend Lake College Driving Range
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Lunch at Aquatics Center patio, drawings at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Noon – Free Throws, Waugh Gymnasium.
Shooting (Rend Lake Shooting Complex)
Noon – 50-shot round of sporting clays (loaner guns available, must bring own shells or purchase from Shooting Complex)
All entries must be received on or before Friday, May 27. The $15 entry fee allows entrants to participate in as many events as they wish. All athletes will receive an official T-shirt. There are facility fees for bowling ($6.75), golf ($20), shooting ($15) and swimming ($5) which must be paid at the site of those competitions prior to the events. Complimentary gift bags will be presented at the on-site RLC registration table, and lunch and drawings will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Aquatics Center patio.
