The Rend Lake College Foundation Children’s Center may be one of the best-kept secrets in the area. While the facility does provide day care for the children of students and staff at RLC, it also is open to the public.
The Children’s Center accepts children from six weeks to 12 years old. Children are grouped by their ages into infant, toddler, preschool and school-age classrooms.
The RLC Foundation Children’s Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the largest organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of early education programs for children from birth through age eight.
The Children’s Center serves students as a quality child care facility and doubles as a training complex for students in the college’s Early Childhood Education program. It also serves as a model for other child care facilities within the district.
Programming at the facility emphasizes developmentally appropriate curriculum featuring art, music, and indoor/outdoor learning centers utilizing integrated and cooperative learning techniques.
Rend Lake College has numerous early childhood professionals working together to improve professional practices and working conditions in early childhood education and to build public support for high-quality early childhood education programs.
