If you are thinking of signing up for one of the multitude of trips and classes available through the Rend Lake College Institute for Learning in Retirement but want to learn more before committing, stop by the RLC Aquatics Center lobby at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, and get all your questions answered during an open house.
ILR instructors will be on hand to discuss this fall’s offerings. Refreshments will be served and participants will have the chance to win a gift certificate for an upcoming ILR offering.
The Institute for Learning in Retirement is an organization of retirement-age people who share a common interest in lifelong learning and cultural enrichment. No grades are given and there is no membership fee. Classes and trips are scheduled based on opinions voiced by senior adults in the community.
The ILR has a plethora of trips scheduled for this fall, as well as a variety of classes for a wide array of interests. Join the group for a day of discovery at the St. Louis Holocaust Museum, take a tour of the Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield, discover haunted hangouts with the “Spirits of St. Louis” tour, visit Magnolia Manor and Custom House, view the creations of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright or experience the Farmer’s Market at Missouri Botanical Gardens.
There are two extended trips set for this fall. Experience the beauty of the nation’s capital with “Our Country’s Treasures: Washington D.C. Tour,” set for Saturday, Oct. 1, through Saturday, Oct. 8, or take a fabulous, three-day tour sure to raise your spirits with “Where Eagles Soar: Alton Tour,” set for Tuesday, Oct. 10, through Thursday, Oct. 12.
As always, the ILR has several classes scheduled to allow participants to keep up the habit of learning. Participants can discover the Internet and digital photography, enjoy a tour of Switzerland or an African safari without leaving their seats, learn about fitness for seniors or discuss the Book of Revelation by signing up with these and other classes.
Anyone interested is encouraged to come to the open house. For more information, contact ILR Coordinator Lori Ragland at (618) 437-5321, Ext. 1367, or call toll-free (in-district only) at 1-800-369-5321, Ext. 1367.
