There’s no need to let the bats go cold this winter. Form a team and sign up for the Indoor Bat League at The Hitting Zone at Rend Lake College.
This competitive league will be comprised of teams playing games within the confines of a batting cage. Pitchers will throw live to a catcher against live hitters, and hits and outs will be determined by where the ball is hit inside the cage.
Teams should be made up of a minimum of four people, with at least three pitchers and one catcher. The Hitting Zone will provide the facilities, umpires and video. The league is for ages 14 and up.
Games will be held on Thursday nights. There will be two “seasons,” Nov. 10 through Dec. 22 and Jan. 5 through Feb. 9. Depending on the number of teams entered, more game dates may be added. Champions will be named at the end of each season.
Players should show up early enough to stretch, throw and warm up. Games will be seven innings, and the umpires will call balls and strikes and determine base hits. A ball hit off the side of the cage will be a single, down the line will be a double and a line drive to the back of the cage is a home run. The umpires also will call passed balls and wild pitches, and will determine if bases should be awarded on those plays.
Individuals who do not have a team will be placed with one. Sign-up fee is $70 for members of The Hitting Zone and $85 for non-members.
The Hitting Zone is located on the south side of the Rend Lake College campus. To register or for more information, call The Hitting Zone at (618) 437-5321, Ext. 1279, or call toll-free at 1-800-369-5321, Ext. 1279.
