Rend Lake College’s Laker Girls Dance Team is on a search for dancers who are ready to take their abilities to a new level. Team tryouts are set for Thursday through Saturday, April 27 through April 29.
“We are looking for dancers who love hard work, who are ready to increase their ability levels while improving their techniques, and above all, who love to dance,” said Lyndsey Moore, Laker Girls Head Coach.
The tryouts will be held at RLC, and dancers will be asked to learn two routines and demonstrate their technical skills. For those who make the team, scholarships are available. Team members must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade-point average and meet other requirements to remain eligible for the team.
The Laker Girls provide entertainment at all home basketball games and participate in campus-wide student activities, but the team also is competitive. The Laker Girls are slated to attend a variety of dance competitions this year.
The team also hosts a “Lil’ Laker Girl” summer dance camp for children, participates in a campus-wide cleanup twice each year and makes public appearances throughout the area to promote a positive image for themselves and Rend Lake College. This summer, the Laker Girls will attend a Universal Dance Association or National Dance Association dance camp to obtain new material and improve technical skills.
Moore said her coaching style is one which consists of compromise, dedication, and most importantly, hard work.
“Being a dance coach is a passion for me because I love dancing and what it can do for people who are willing to do their best,” Moore said. “I love to have fun, and I will incorporate that attitude into the season as well, creating an all-around experience for the dancers which will leave them with new best friends and lots of great memories.”
