If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to speed down the track in a NASCAR race, stop by the fourth annual King City Barbeque Showdown and find out.
Now people can experience the thrills and the excitement of the track as they sit behind the wheel of a full-size NASCAR-style simulator and race the latest fully interactive race game while the crowd watches all the excitement on a large external “pit box” monitor.
The best part? It’s free.
The simulator will be available all three days of the festival, which is set for 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, June 9; noon to midnight Saturday, June 10; and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 11. The Showdown will be held on the grounds of the Rend Lake College MarketPlace and Holiday Inn on Potomac Boulevard in Mt. Vernon.
The simulator offers the latest plug-and-play technology, and people of all ages can give it a try due to its simple operation. Even if someone chooses not to drive, they are still captivated by all the racing action on the monitors. The simulator has 27 different NASCAR track configurations, volume controls, inside-car air effects and surround sound. Winners can be scored by race, by hour, or by length of show.
At the King City Barbeque Showdown, some of the best barbequing teams around will compete for a purse of $8,000 in cash prizes, and spectators will have the chance to sample the teams’ cooking with the People’s Choice Award competition Friday evening.
More great activities and displays include the #38 NASCAR Great Clips racer, a NASCAR simulator, RLC Golf Outlet Golf Simulator, the Budweiser Clydesdales, a Harley-Davidson show, a Kids Que (barbequing contest for youngsters), a karaoke contest, a volleyball tournament, a family food court, the Budweiser Beer Garden, a Wine Trail and much more. A variety of bands are lined up for all three evenings and people can come to watch the finals of the Crossroads Community Hospital Karaoke Contest.
