Contestants from in-district high schools will have the chance to compete for five one-year tuition waivers during the 23rd annual Rend Lake College Welding Contest, sponsored by the RLC Advanced Technology Center.
William Dill, Advanced Technology Center Division Chair, said the contest is scheduled for Friday, March 26. The students will arrive at 8 a.m. and will weld through noon. The winners will be announced after lunch.
Dill said the students will be required to weld a “flat pad” sample with stringers and will be judged on the consistency of the stringers. Contestants also will weld a horizontal T-joint. Other factors involved in the judging will include the appearance of the welds and penetration.
Lunch will be served. For more information, contact Dill at (618) 437-5321, Ext. 1272.
