When the steam cleared and the sizzling died down, four students in Rend Lake College’s Culinary Arts program emerged the winners of a chicken recipe contest.
Lorn Biros (Carbondale) took first place with his creation, a feta-cheese-and-basil stuffed chicken breast in proscuito. Kenneth "K.P." Perry (Benton) came in second with a meal of chicken breast parmesan.
In third place was Kacie Allen (Benton) with her stuffed chicken florentine with hollandaise sauce. Fourth was Kathy Lilly (Altamont) with chicken in pear brandy sauce. Fifteen students participated in the contest.
The contest, which was held February 4 in the RLC Student Center, served as a final examination for the first half of Culinary Arts Instructor Diane Catalfamo’s Food Preparations class. The students were judged in categories such as recipe selection, safety/sanitation, cooking methods, creativity, presentation and marketability.
