Rend Lake College’s Community Education offerings in McLeansboro continue to expand with the addition of hair styling and sewing courses, as well as a series of music classes for youngsters.
"RLC Music Adventures," aimed at children in kindergarten through second grade, gets underway Thursday, February 5, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Hamilton County Senior High School East Side Gym. The class will be offered again Thursday, April 1, and Thursday, May 6, at the same time and location. The class costs $5 and is taught by McLeansboro native Julie Wilkerson, Associate Music Professor at RLC.
Join the group for a wonderful musical experience -- rock with rhythm and explore the sound of your voice and your favorite instruments. Students will explore rhythm development, creative movement and active listening. The course is not limited to the McLeansboro school district.
On Thursday, March 4, join "Hair Styling: New ‘Dos,’" from 6-9 p.m. at Hamilton County Senior High School Room B154. This class, offered for $12, will introduce new looks in hair fashion with emphasis on styling. Current trends will be demonstrated on models and mannequins.
Participants in "Sewing for Beginners" will be challenged to create their own pairs of flannel pants. This class covers basic sewing principles and attendees will learn to select appropriate material and notions for a pattern. Students also will learn to complete sewing instructions.
The course costs $24 plus supplies and will be held from 6-8 p.m. Mondays from March 22 through April 19 in Hamilton County Senior High School Room B157.
