Learn the basics of starting your own business, from how to handle finances to managing employees, through several small business seminars offered by Rend Lake College.
"How to Start Your Own Business" will cover services available through RLC’s Small Business Development Center as well as legal structures for small business, registering a business, employee issues, developing a business plan and financing options. The course is taught by Curt Mowrer, Director of the Small Business Development Center.
"How to Start Your Own Business" will be offered several times in the coming months. Seminar dates are: Thursday, January 22; Saturday, February 7; Thursday, February 19; Tuesday, March 2; Saturday, March 20; Thursday, April 8; and Saturday, April 24. All of the seminars run from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and will meet in Room 347 at the Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon, with the exception of the April 8 seminar, which will be held in Room 113 at the Murphy-Wall Pinckneyville Campus. There is no charge to attend the seminar.
"QuickBooks Pro 2003" is a four-day, 16-hour, in-depth hands-on workshop for any business, professional or individual wanting to learn the QuickBooks Pro accounting/payroll software. A basic knowledge of the personal computer and Microsoft Windows fundamentals are prerequisites for the class.
Participants can choose from two course sections. One will begin March 23 and will meet from 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 1 in Rend Lake MarketPlace Room 338. The second section begins April 20 and meets from 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through April 28 in Murphy-Wall Pinckneyville Campus Room 102. The cost of the course is $150.
Randall Shively, RLC Physical Plant Director, is slated to instruct two management seminars. Shively has more than 22 years of experience in the manufacturing and maintenance fields and has been the senior trainer for Diamond Training Institute for the past three years.
Shively will preside over "Management Training Designed for the New Supervisor," which will be held from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, April 17, and "How Leadership Affects Managing Others," scheduled for 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, May 15. Both courses cost $35 and will be held in Room 354A at the MarketPlace.
"Financial Investments" will be held at the Murphy-Wall Campus at a date and time to be announced.
