Consider it a good excuse for spending a fall afternoon on the golf course.
The 23rd annual Rend Lake College Foundation Open Golf Tournament is seeking players to fill 174 slots for its scramble format Thursday, October 9, at Rend Lake Golf Course in Whittington. A noon shotgun start is scheduled, with six-player teams competing for honors in the handicap event.
The 18-hole fund-raiser for student scholarships will be co-sponsored this year by the Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon and one of its cornerstone stores, the Rend Lake College Golf Outlet.
Half of the $100 entry fee per person is tax deductible, according to RLC Foundation Open Coordinator Lisa Payne, Dean of Instruction. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Hole sponsorships likewise are available to individuals and businesses for $100, fully tax deductible.
Participants may register as part of their own six-player team or as individuals to be placed on a team. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, October 1.
Teams will be flighted following the charity tournament.
Prizes will be awarded to the five top Low Net teams and the Low Gross entry, as well as Longest Drive and Closest-to-the-Pin for both men and women. The donation also covers green fees and riding cart, lunch, refreshments on the course and dinner.
