RLC Spring enrollment beats state average
Learned that student head count at Rend Lake College rose 12.8 percent from 2004-2008, while the state community college system as a whole was down 4.3 percent. For the 2007-2008 year, RLC's student head count was up 8.2 percent and the system was down 0.6 percent.
In terms of full-time equivalency (the total number of credit hours generated divided by a full-time load; in essence, a figure showing the number of students the college would have if every student took a full-time course load), the college was up 5.2 percent from 2004-2008, whereas the system was down 0.6 percent over the same period. In the 2007-2008 year, the college's FTE was up 7 percent, while the state system was up 1.4 percent.
Also, the figures for RLC did not include dual-credit enrollment in local high schools. Dual credit increased from 3,415 students and 7,456 credit hours to 5,040 students and 12,757 credit hours from 2007 to 2008.
Thomas becomes new Student Trustee
Seated Luke Thomas (Springerton) as the new Student Trustee. Thomas is a May 2007 graduate of Hamilton County Senior High School and currently is in his second semester as a full-time RLC student. The Agricultural Production and Management major won the Ag Production Tuition Waiver for summer and fall 2007 and spring 2008 and holds a 3.897 grade-point average. He replaces outgoing Student Trustee Renee Ryterski.
Phone system to receive upgrade
Granted permission to lease telephone network equipment for the RLC main campus. The current equipment and software have exceeded their life expectancies, according to administrative rationale.
Out-of-district tuition rate set
Set the out-of-district tuition rate at $112.50 per credit hour beginning with the Fall 2008 semester.
Textbook, video rental fees set
Increased textbook and video rental fees from $29 per item to $32 per item. These fees are used to offset the cost of books to the campus and to give students a less expensive alternative to purchasing materials required for the course. For the past three years, textbook costs to the campus have risen at a rate higher than inflation, but this increase was absorbed by the campus. The additional cost on a typical full-time student enrolled in 15 credit hours would be only $15.
