INA, Ill.(June 1, 2012) — Rend Lake College, in conjunction with the Illinois Green Economy Network, will be hosting a Local Foods bus tour of Southern Illinois on June 23. Limited seating is still available.
Local Foods is a collaborative effort to build on the local food economy to enhance a community’s economic, environmental, and social health. According to step-on tour guide, RLC Instructor Greg Hollmann, the objective of this tour is to educate people about the wide variety of locally grown, organic food products produced and available in Southern Illinois. The tour was designed to help people learn more about sustainable and organic growing methods for vegetables, fruits, and meats.
The tour will be held from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23. It will include visits to some area farms, ranches, and orchards. Other stops will include a local farmer’s market and Cristaudo’s in Carbondale for a specially created local foods lunch. The registration fee is $25 and covers lunch, transportation, tour fees and gratuity.
This event is provided in part by grant funds from the Illinois Green Economy Network.
