INA –Rend Lake College has launched a new web portal that students and alumni can begin using this week. The enhancement, which is being called “MyRLC,” will streamline two areas heavily accessed by students – student records and Blackboard – and introduce a new exciting feature, Warrior Mail.
“As technology moves forward, a lot more things are online. They want to go to one place with one access account,” said RLC Vice President of Information Technology Salah Shakir. “MyRLC is an easy and simple portal for students. Basically, we have put everything in one place for easy accessibility and navigation, and to keep consistency within the site ... especially those areas our students are frequently using.”
According to Shakir, Southern Illinois University recently resolved their issues with students having multiple online IDs by creating “Dawg ID” which serves the same purpose as MyRLC.
Before MyRLC, students would go to their records and Blackboard account through separate areas of the website. Now, it is all done through MyRLC. Shakir added that future features will enhance the MyRLC experience for students. The first of these is the addition of Warrior Mail.
“It’s a combination between Google and RLC,” Shakir explained. “Students can keep it active after they graduate and continue to use it into their careers. Warrior Mail, combined with FaceBook, would be a good combination for alumni to stay connected with colleagues, classmates and future RLC students.”
With Warrior Mail, students can e-mail, chat, add photos and benefit from the many Google-based services out there.
Future modifications to the RLC portal will allow students to add even more individual preference and personalize their MyRLC.
“Every student will have their own website, basically,” Shakir said. “But, that is in the future.”
To get started now, go online to www.rlc.edu/myrlc. From there, type in the username and password. Each student’s username is the last name, first initial and four-digit month-day of his or her birthday. Alumni and continuing students can use their existing login id and password. New students will need to use their new username and password. To get a password, students must visit Student Records inside the Administration Building on campus. From there, students can get their username and password to go online and use the portal.
