INA - Rend Lake College is in the process of finding a coach for its women's basketball team after recent hire Julie Sweetin's resignation was accepted at Tuesday night's meeting of the Board of Trustees.
RLC Vice President of Finance and Administration Larry West, who oversees athletics at the college, said he and Athletic Director Brent McLain are in the process of filling the coaching position.
Sweetin, 22, has accepted a position out of state and outside of the realm of coaching. The team will continue to prepare for its first game, Oct. 19 at the SWIC Jamboree in Belleville, while a replacement is sought.
Sweetin, a former Lady Warrior and Benton Rangerette, said she was looking forward to experiencing her first year of coaching at her alma mater.
"I love the school. I love the people at Rend Lake College," she said. "I'm glad I was given this opportunity, but sometimes you have to make changes and sometimes those changes come at the wrong time.
"The girls are great. I care about their direction and where they are going as a team. I've told them that. I know they will bring in someone great who will lead them to where we were planning to go together."
She also resigned from her position as a counselor in the Student Transfer and Retention Support program on campus. That resignation will take effect Sept. 19. Her resignation from coaching was effective immediately upon the board's acceptance.
"The administration at RLC has been wonderful to me," she added. "I really liked my job at the school."
