2008 tax levy determined
Accepted the 2008 tax levy (payable 2009). The 2008 levy is $4,356,366, an increase of 0.886 percent over last year. Therefore, no Truth in Taxation hearing is required.
PHS project approved
Granted permission to submit the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning upgrades project to the Illinois Community College Board for approval and to bid the project upon receipt of approval.
College to lease electric golf carts
Authorized trading in 12 existing gas-powered golf carts and entering into a tax-exempt agreement with Little Egypt Golf Cars of Salem on a five-year municipal lease-purchase for 12 newer electric carts. The total expenditure over the five years is projected at $45,288. The savings in gas alone over that same period will be more than $21,000.
Employee Investment Plan with Hartford Cornerstone Approved
Hartford Cornerstone group as the sponsor of the college's 403(b) plan, a tax-deferred employee investment plan. Due to recent IRS changes, the college must adopt a 403(b) plan document by Dec. 31. According to administrative rationale, of those companies who responded to the college's request for proposals, the Hartford Cornerstone group - brokered by Edward Jones of Mt. Vernon - offers the most beneficial investment options for employees.
Dr. Sarah Bond moving on
Accepted with regret the resignation of Dr. Sarah Bond, Applied Science Division Chair, effective Sept. 1. She has accepted a position as Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Development at Southeastern Illinois College. "My experience at Rend Lake College has been rewarding ... I wish you and the organization continued success," Bond said. She had been in her position at RLC since May 2004.
Resignations accepted from three
o Accepted with regret the resignation of Mike Burris as Land Lab Supervisor, which is a stipend position, effective Sept. 15. Burris still will remain at RLC in his full-time capacity as Agricultural Mechanics and Diesel Technology Associate Professor.
o The board also accepted with regret the resignation of Josh DeJarnette, Help Desk Technician, effective Sept. 4. "I sincerely appreciate the opportunity that was given to me at Rend Lake College and have enjoyed the chance to work with some very good people," DeJarnette said.
o Accepted with regret the resignation of Julie Sweetin, STARS Counselor and Head Women's Basketball Coach, effective Sept. 19 and Sept. 4, respectively.
Program, course approved
Approved the Emergency Medical Care I program and a Soccer course and authorized their submission to the Illinois Community College Board for action.

o Tabled a request to purchase a used excavator for the Heavy Equipment Technology program.
o Tabled transfer of part-time security personnel to full-time.
o Heard from RLC Academic Council Representative Terry Wilkerson who informed the board that the council will seat new members and elect officers at their next meeting.
