INA – Smart students go the ICE Fair. At least that is what nearly 40 colleges and universities from across the country are hoping for when they set up shop to recruit students at the Illinois College Expo on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Rend Lake College.
The ICE Fair is from 6 - 8 p.m., in the RLC Gym, and offers parents and high school students an outstanding opportunity to meet face to face with representatives of colleges and universities inside and outside Illinois. This rewarding and informative event hosted by RLC is a must for students looking to further their education.
Sponsored by the Illinois Association of College Admission Counseling (IACAC), the fair is free to attend.
“The purpose of the ICE fair is to create an opportunity for area students both high school and community college, to speak to several state and private universities regarding the continuing of their education,” explained RLC Recruiter Jason Swann. “It is a wonderful opportunity to meet, question and receive information from colleges that students may be interested in attending.”
The ICE Fair will be packed with information about schools. Participants will have the opportunity to gather literature, ask questions and learn about programs and activities at schools they are interested in.
Institutions that will be represented at the ICE Fair include Barnes Jewish College in St. Louis; Blackburn College in Carlinville; Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.; Eastern Illinois University in Charleston; Fontbonne University in St. Louis; Greenville College; Hickey College in Maryland, Mo.; Illinois College in Jacksonville; Illinois State University in Normal; Lincoln College; Lindenwood University; McKendree College in Lebanon; Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, Kent.; Millikin University in Decatur; Murray State University in Murray, Kent.; Missouri University of Science and Technology; Missouri Baptist University; Northern Illinois University in Dekalb; Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.; Oakland City University; Quincy University; Ranken Technical College in St. Louis; RLC; Rockford College; Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; Springfield College - Benedictine University; Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.; University of Illinois at Springfield; University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign; Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa; Webster University in St. Louis; Western Illinois University in Macomb; and Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.. If there is a college of interest not listed above, contact Swann at 618-437-5321, Ext. 1265.
Evidence suggests that good planning and thorough research of options enhances the chances of a good match between the student and the post-secondary institution. That is why college officials recommend parents spend some time with their son or daughter prior to attending the ICE Fair in order to explore some of the reasons for continuing education after high school. Ideally, parents will be able to attend with their children. However, if this isn’t possible, the ICE Fair is still a valuable event for a student to attend without a parent.
Mark Sept. 23 on the calendar and take a big step in preparing for the future by attending the ICE Fair at RLC.
