INA - The annual Rend Lake College Holiday card will feature a one-of-a-kind design this season, thanks to a recent contest from college officials.
The contest has been launched to get a student's design on the cover of the card. Open to current RLC students, contest entries will be accepted by the RLC Foundation until 4:30 p.m., Nov. 3 and a committee will announce its selection on the RLC internet homepage by Nov. 5. Nearly a thousand Holiday cards will be mailed out to RLC staff, faculty, administrators, Board members, and Foundation Board members and supporters.
Entries can be full-color or grayscale. There is little limitation to what the design can be. The only two requirements are that it should have a holiday theme and incorporate Rend Lake College. The card will be five inches by seven inches.
"It could be a drawing, photograph, poem, a winter scene, a painting, a graphic design," said Foundation Assistant Director Claire Creedmore. "It can be anything and it is open to all RLC students - whether the designer is a traditional student, non-traditional student, or someone who just takes a class here or there."
"We have established a selection committee to review what we hope will be a large number of entries," said RLC Interim President Charley Holstein. "We really want to showcase the talent at RLC by putting it in the hands of all of those who get a Holiday card from the college Board, Foundation and administration."
In addition to having the design viewed by thousands and displayed on refrigerators and mantles across the college district, the card will include a short biography about the artist and his or her description of the design. The winner will also receive a $100 gift certificate to the RLC Bookstore.
Visit the RLC website at www.rlc.edu and surf around to get ideas. The website has photos, stories, a brief overview of its history and much more.
To enter, send designs with the artist's name, address, and phone number to the Rend Lake College Foundation at 468 N. Ken Gray Parkway in Ina, Ill., 62846.
