Pinckneyville-Rend Lake College showcases fun and exciting Community Ed classes for the spring semester in Pinckneyville.
Communication with the deaf through "Sign Language" is a rewarding skill for the hearing and also creates wider contacts for the deaf. Using instruction and group activities, you will learn basic American Sign Language, sign exact English, and acquire an understanding of the culture of the hearing impaired. This class is a great opportunity for teachers to learn the alphabet, colors, numbers and common items in the classroom. Teaching materials for deaf and hard of hearing will be shared. The course will be held Tuesdays from 4-6pm, January 27-February 17 at the RLC Murphy-Wall campus in room 101. The class is worth 0.5 credit hour/7.5 CPDUs. The cost is $37.
Parents/Guardians can take a class with their school-aged children. Imagine the fun of discovering basic Spanish together. Learn numbers, colors, days of the week, months of the year, introductions, names of objects, asking for directions, culture and geography in Spanish. "Me and My Amigo Spanish" will meet on Tuesday evenings at Pinckneyville High School in room 24 from 6:30-7:30pm from February 3-March 24. Registration fee is $32.
Learn how to make beautiful beaded jewelry and correctly string beads on wire and pins. Gain an understanding of the essential placement of beads for the best design, and discover how to select the right clasp for different pieces. "Jewelry Creations" will be held on Thursday, March 19 from 6-8pm. Dependent on which item you choose to make; supply fee will range between $10-$20.
Not one but two golf classes! First, find out why golf is such a popular sport! Basic fundamentals will be covered including rules and etiquette, as well as instruction on all phases of the game. Safety and key components such as putting, chipping, and swinging will also be covered to help you enjoy the game of a lifetime. "Golf Basics" will be held on Tuesday and Thursdays, April 21-30 from 6-7pm at the Red Hawk Country Club. Next, take a class designed for golfers who want to review the ABC's and move on to the next level. "Golf Intermediate/Advanced" will give students access to playing the golf course to learn course strategies. Video instruction will also be utilized. This class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 5-14 at the Red Hawk Country Club. Dan Breslin is the instructor for both classes and the registration for each class is $27.

If you are considering taking a class, please call and let us know at least one week prior to the start of class. Otherwise, we must cancel low enrollment classes.
