Rend Lake College and Southern Illinois University Carbondale have teamed up to offer a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the convenience of the Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon.
Join us for an informational meeting Saturday, April 25, in Room 338 at the MarketPlace, located on Potomac Boulevard just west of Interstate 57. Two meeting times are available, 10 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The sessions are aimed at those who already have applied for admission to SIUC's Fall 2009 cohort group, but anyone interested in learning more is welcome to attend.
Rend Lake College offers an Associate of Arts in Teaching Early Childhood Education Degree, which rolls smoothly into the Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education through SIUC. Students are not limited to working in day care centers - successful completers will be certified to teach Pre-K through third grade.
Rend Lake College's AAT Degree takes two years to complete and encompasses 62 credit hours. SIUC's Bachelor's Degree requires another 62 hours, and those classes will be offered over a two-year period in a block format. This is a cohort group, so students will take classes together throughout the program. Courses are offered in the evenings and on weekends.
SIUC developed the Bachelor's Degree program in response to the state's call for new models in preparing early childhood education school teachers.
The MarketPlace also is home to other offerings from four-year universities. SIUC offers its Weekend Bachelor of Science Degree in Workforce Education and Development and its Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. SIU Edwardsville offers a Teacher of English as a Second Language Certification. McKendree University offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, as well as both Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Business Administration.
