Rend Lake College is bringing an exciting line-up of Community Education classes to Sesser this fall.
Students will learn vital information to ensure their family and pet's health in "Zoonotic Diseases: Public Health, Pets, and Food Animals." Participants will learn from a licensed veterinarian, Dr. John Spence, as he explains diseases and illnesses that can be spread from pets to their owners and shows steps to prevent them. Students also will learn about diseases and illnesses that can be caused by eating animals and how to be aware of the signs. This class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from September 15 through 29 in the Sesser Community Building. Registration is $30.
In "Toothbrush Handle Rugs," students will learn a quick and easy way to make crocheted rugs using the handle of a toothbrush. Students do not need any previous sewing or crocheting knowledge to take this course. Marj Bunton will instruct on how to turn scrap fabric into a sturdy rug that is also machine washable. Students will need to bring several yards of fabric strips already cut 2.5 inches wide (denim material should be cut into 1 inch strips). Length of strips will not matter because they will be tied together. The amount of fabric needed will depend on the size and shape of the rug students wish to create. Toothbrush handle tools will be available from the instructor for $2. This class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, at the Sesser Community Building. Registration is $15.
Christmas is a great time of year to spend in athe kitchen creating special treats. In "Kids in the Kitchen: Christmas," young students will make delicious treats, as well as their own personalized Christmas ornaments to hang on the tree or to give to someone special. Students will need to bring a supply fee of $6 payable to instructor Virginia McCann. This class will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 3, at the Sesser Community Building. Students should be six years old or older or be accompanied by an adult. Registration is $10.
