INA - Older Americans are the number one target of investment con artists. The files of state securities agencies are filled with tragic examples of senior citizens who have been cheated out of savings, windfall insurance payments, and even the equity in their own homes.
Rend Lake College is hosting a free class for seniors citizens called "Caution! Scams Against Seniors." John Sanders of the Secretary of State's Securities Department will present a presentation called "Caution: Scam Ahead." In it he will explain why senior citizens are the prime target of investment scams. The presentation will offer ways to protect against fraud and alert individuals to the top scams going on in Illinois. Each attendee will receive a copy of the booklet "Investment Guide for Illinois Consumers," plus other interesting materials. He will show a short video focusing on telephone fraud and also go through a fun activity called "Can You Spot the Scam?"
This free class will be held on Wednesday, October 6 from 1-3pm on the Rend Lake College main campus in Ina in the Historic One-Room Schoolhouse.
The class is free but pre-registration is required. For more information or to register call Rend Lake College Community and Corporate Education at (618) 437-5321 x1714 or x1267 or in-district toll-free (800) 369-5321 x1714 or x1267.
