College Bowl
College Bowl is the varsity sport of the mind. The team competes with other schools in the Southern Illinois Collegiate Common Market (SICCM) conference _ Frontier, John A. Logan, Kaskaskia, Shawnee, Southeastern Illinois and Southwestern Illinois (formerly Belleville Area) _ and travels to other upstate and out-of-state tournaments each season. Rend Lake College won the first-ever statewide "Academics Olympics" competition in 1993, was third in the state in 1995 and fourth in 1999. By repeating as South-East Region champion in March, 2000, RLC qualified for a fourth appearance in the eight-team state finals and was the runner-up. In other words, the team has finished first, second, third and fourth in the eight years competition has been held at the state level. Rend Lake College also won the SICCM championship six straight seasons between 1990 and 1995 and 10 of 15 overall, including the most recent 1999-2000 season. |
