San Jose , Costa Rica
Offered every Summer Semester
Forester Instituto International
Are you a serious student of Spanish? If so, Costa Rica’s sunny beaches, cool mountains, and lively cities might be the perfect place to improve your skills! For one month you will live with a local family while attending classes and field trips at the Forester Instituto International.
This program is offered in connection with the College of DuPage (COD), located in northern Illinois. For more details concerning the Costa Rica program, please go their web site: cod.edu/academic/intled/CostaRica.
You will receive 7 hours of college credit for this learning experience. You must, however, register for the following courses at RLC:
Choose One: Spanish 1101, 1102, 2101 or 2102. (The Forester Instituto teachers will assess your Spanish language ability and may require a level of change.)
All students must take Culture and Civilization of Costa Rica
To register for this program:
Contact Rebecca Biggs
for an application. Submit the completed original application to COD, with a complete copy given to Sue Tomlin.
Visit the College of DuPage web site for detailed information.
Complete the pre-acceptance interview at RLC.
Register for classes through Rend Lake College. Since RLC recognizes the importance of study abroad, we do not charge tuition to in-district students for these classes. If you mistakenly register through the College of DuPage, however, they will assign you out-of-district status and charge a great deal of tuition. Do not make this mistake!!
Register for these summer classes during the Spring Semester, as you would for any summer courses. You will not be allowed to register late for these courses.
Obtain a current passport. This process can take several weeks. For more information, please go to Obtaining a Passport.
An orientation weekend held at the College of DuPage is mandatory for this program. For more information, please see their web site. Since this orientation involves an over-night stay, you will need to make arrangements for lodging. The cost of lodging and meals for this weekend are not included in your program fees. Many RLC students have relatives or friends in the Chicago area with whom they spend the night. If requested, College of DuPage is also happy to pair you with COD Costa Rica participants so you can stay with them and their families for the night. COD can also provide you with a list of local hotels.
