Illinois Online Initiatives

Did you know that many colleges and universities in Illinois are offering academic courses and even entire degree programs over the Internet? The Illinois Virtual Campus is your gateway to this exciting new world in higher education. The IVC is a directory of distance courses, certificate, and degree programs offered by Illinois colleges and universities. Rend Lake College is one of sixty-two colleges and universities that have met the criteria to become an IVC Provider.

Rend Lake College is also proud to be an Illinois Virtual Campus Student Support Center. As an SSC, RLC may provide the following services: Student Advising, Access to Computers, Access to Library, Technical Assistance, Proctoring Tests and Exams, and general information regarding Online Learning.

The Illinois Online Network (ION) is a collaboration of all forty-eight community colleges and the University of Illinois working together to advance utilization of Internet-based instruction and service throughout the state of Illinois. RLC is a participating ION Institution. The following ION link can provide valuable information about Online Learning and whether it's right for you.

Illinois Community Colleges Online (ILCCO) is a consortia of Illinois community colleges sharing online courses and programs. The ILCCO initiative is a statewide online degree or certificate program. Its mission is to expand access to learning opportunities for all residents of Illinois independent of location and/or time. ILCCO’s purpose is to provide a wide range of online learning opportunities to Illinois residents at a reasonable cost and allow students at any community college to access, through their home college, online courses and programs delivered from other Illinois community colleges. RLC is an active participant.

The Illinois Century Network (ICN) is a telecommunications backbone providing high speed access to data, video, and audio communication in schools and libraries, at colleges and universities, to public libraries and museums, and for local government and state agencies. Rend Lake College is connected to the ICN.
